MigraGone Ingredients (Combination of 4 Key Ingredients)
Standardized Butterbur Extract (Level A Evidence-Based)
Level A classification, requires at least two consistent Class I studies. Basically, a Class I study is a randomized, controlled clinical trial in a representative population, where 80% of the participants complete the study.
The Purple Butterbur contained in MigraGone is free of Pyrrolizidine alkaloid, and is standardized to assure 15% petasin and isopetasin, the active extract of Butterbur.
What does Level A evidence-based recommendation for prevention and treatment of migraines mean?
Petasites, the active ingredient in Butterbur was found to be effective, and should be offered for migraine prevention. This is according to the "Evidence-based Guidelines Update: Pharmacologic Treatments and NSAIDs and Other Complementary Treatments for Episodic Migraine Prevention in Adults", which was a report issued by the Quality Standards Subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Headache Society.
How Butterbur Helps Prevent Migraines
Over the past few centuries, Butterbur has been used as a natural remedy to help reduce pain. Recently, various studies 1,2,3 have shown that the active ingredients in Butterbur help reduce the frequency of migraine attacks by up to 48%. It is thought that the active ingredients in Butterbur, petasin and isopetasin reduce migraine frequency and pain by reducing associated inflammation and spasm.
Why Butterbur Needs to be Pyrrolizidine Alkaloid Free
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are harmful to the liver and found naturally in many plants, such as the Petasites hybridus, also known as Purple Butterbur,. Because of this toxicity, it is imperative to use a Butterbur extract that is free of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids. MigraGone contains high quality Butterbur that is imported from Belgium and does not contain Pyrrolizidine alkaloids. It is then lab tested to assure optimum potency and the fact that it is Pyrrolizidine Alkaloid Free (PA-Free).
Feverfew or Tanacetum parthenium is a plant which is actually part of the daisy family, and as with Butterbur, Feverfew has been used as a home remedy for migraines for centuries.
It appears that the active ingredient of the Feverfew plant is parthenolide, and it may help to reduce inflammation and to relieve the spasm of smooth muscle. As you may remember from science class, one of the places that you can find smooth muscle is in the blood vessels of the body.
There are numerous studies 4,5,6 that have shown that Feverfew can help reduce the severity and/or frequency of migraine headaches.
Riboflavin, also called Vitamin B2 has been shown 7 to reduce headache intensity, duration and frequency. This is exciting news for migraine sufferers.
In 2004 there was a migraine study to compare the effects of Riboflavin taken in a dose of 400mg per day, compared to a placebo. This study revealed that the participants that got the Riboflavin had a substantially reduced number of headaches. Because of the reduced headache frequency, these patients were able to reduce the amount of pain medication they were taking for their headaches.
Magnesium deficiency continues to be a problem in the USA and around the world. In fact approximately 48% of the American population 8 was deficient in magnesium in 2006. Unfortunately, a magnesium deficiency can cause a myriad of problems, including migraine headaches.
MigraGone contains a highly absorbable form of magnesium called magnesium glycinate. It's a chelated form of magnesium that not only is better absorbed but has a higher bio-availablility than most other magnesium supplements found on the market. Because of these superior attributes, we chose to use magnesium glycinate. Each capsule actually contains 420 mg of magnesium glycinate that yields 60 mg of elemental magnesium and it is highly absorbed.
Other forms of magnesium may yield a higher amount but little is absorbed. For example, a 500 mg tablet of magnesium oxide may contain about 300 mg of elemental magnesium but only 12 mg is absorbed.
